The original idea came to the then captain of Oaklands Jeff Mulholland after seeing a similar society existed for North Cheshire.
Whilst originally it consisted of the five clubs of Crewe, Congleton, Macclesfield, Heyrose and Portal, over the coming years this has expanded to nine with the addition of Astbury, Alsager, Sandbach and Vale Royal Abbey.
The first event took place at Oaklands (now Portal) with 25 players. It wasn’t long before the membership grew together with the number of fixtures. These now include matches against similar societies from Manchester, North Cheshire, Worcestershire and South Cheshire Ladies.
“Much praise goes to Jeff Mulholland (secretary), Brian Hopkins (treasurer) and John Grint (matches organiser) for their hard work over the years in creating a society with such a warm and friendly atmosphere,” said a society spokesperson.
