Pewit to close for good

A GOLF course which averages just eight players a day is to close for good.

Pewit Golf Course in Derbyshire took more than a year to reopen after lockdown and has been badly hit by the impact of Covid-19.

However, it had been struggling financially for several years amid reports it was poorly maintained and membership – just £12 per month for over-60s – was too cheap.

Between June 2021 and February this year, its average takings were less than £30 per day – and Erewash Borough Council has taken the decision to turn the site into a nature reserve.

However, members have vowed to fight the closure, with a petition due to be launched, while several individuals including captain Colin Brodie have written to the council to protest.
