Get regular society trips from March to October with the NALGO Golf Society
IF YOU’RE looking to join a golf society this year and live in or around the Blackpool, Preston and East Lancashire area, then get the NALGO Golf Society on your hotlist of ones to join.
The society has been on the go for no less than 48 years this year and, as organiser Ken Garret told UK Club Golfer, it is as busy as ever.
“The society continues to provide competitive golf for a membership of around 30 members drawn from Blackpool, Preston and East Lancashire areas,” he said.
“We meet monthly from March to October at some popular venues in the North West, and each year have a four-day break in Scotland.
“This year we shall be staying in Peebles at the MacDonald Cardrona Hotel where we shall enjoy rounds at Peebles, West Linton and The Woll, as well as 18 holes on the hotel course.
“The excursion is extremely popular with our members as it gives an opportunity to experience four days of ‘team’ golf as a change from the regular club medal and strokeplay competitions.”
The photograph shows one of the teams during last year’s trip to Stirling Golf Club.
With the increasing rise of ‘nomad’ golfers – golfers who play regularly but are not necessarily members of a traditional, private golf club – Garrett was keen to stress that non-golf club members can become members of the NALGO Golf Society and obtain a society handicap calculated in similar fashion to that of a regular golf club handicap, which is recalculated every time they play in a society event.
Garrett said his society is always on the lookout to increase its member base, so if you’re interested in meeting some new people and playing in regular competitions, not to mention trips to the home of golf, send an email to email@example.com.
