The annual dinner and prize giving was held at Stirling Golf Club.

THE ANNUAL Scottish Seniors Golfing Society dinner and prize giving was another huge success, reflecting the continued growth of the society.

Formed in November 2006, credit for the development of the society goes to former amateur internationalist Gordon MacDonald, and this proved to be ingenious.

It was initially formed to meet the high demand from a significant number of senior amateur golfers still desperate to play regular golf.

Now, with over 250 members, including former Walker Cup players, the society has surpassed any expectations and thrives during a tough time for golf clubs.

The events normally consist of a 36-hole competition, taking place over two days, for players aged 50 and over, with handicaps of 9.4 or less.

“We had another hugely successful dinner and prize giving at Stirling Golf Club,” said Gordon Doig, past captain.

“We were all entertained by our guest speaker Sandy Jones, and our own Jim McArthur, who delighted us all with his brand of humour.

“Jonathan Campbell and Doug Hall were at the dinner representing our principle sponsors McCrea Financial Services, Independent Finanical Advisers.”

The top award went to Ronnie Clark of Erskine Golf Club, who won last year’s Order of Merit.
